Quick answer
Is a Barclays Bank Account worth a look? It has no monthly fee, opens in the Barclays app, and Barclays’ own page showed a switch offer of up to £300 on 3 October 2026 (a £150 switch reward for switching and paying in a £2,000 salary, then up to £30 a month for five months). Spending abroad on the standard debit card costs 2.99% in our checks, so it isn’t a travel card.
Who it’s for — and who should avoid it
Who it’s for
- People who want a big high-street bank with branches and a full app

Who should avoid it
- Frequent travellers using the debit card abroad (2.99% non-sterling fee)
- Existing Barclays customers hoping for the new-customer switch reward

Where these facts come from: Barclays’ own Bank Account page (checked 3 October 2026); our current accounts and travel money pages (dates shown).
The catch
The switch reward is in two parts: the £30 monthly rewards (up to £150) depend on meeting ongoing conditions, including 10 eligible debit card payments a month for five months, and Barclays says the offer may be withdrawn at any time. Our switch-bonus pages, checked on 27 September 2026, recorded no Barclays cash offer; the new offer appeared on Barclays’ page after that check. FSCS cover of £120,000 is per authorised firm, and Barclays Bank UK PLC also holds money for other brands (Tesco Bank’s Internet Saver is one), so the limit is shared.
