How this calculator works
The calculator treats everything you enter as non-savings, non-dividend income. It doesn’t include savings interest, dividends (see our dividend tax calculator), Marriage Allowance, Blind Person’s Allowance, pension relief or other tax codes. Results are rounded to the penny.
For pay after National Insurance too, use the take-home pay calculator (England, Wales and Northern Ireland).
The formulas we use
Personal Allowance: PA = 12,570 − floor((income − 100,000) ÷ 2), never below £0.
Taxable income: taxable = income − PA
Tax in each band: (part of taxable income in band) × band rate, added together.

FAQ
Does this include National Insurance?
No. Use the National Insurance calculator or the take-home pay calculator.
Who pays Scottish Income Tax?
You pay it if you live in Scotland. Scottish rates apply to wages, pensions and most other income, but not to savings interest or dividends.
Why does my tax jump between £100,000 and £125,140?
The Personal Allowance is withdrawn at £1 for every £2 over £100,000, so income in that range is taxed more heavily.
Is my tax code included?
No. The calculator assumes the standard Personal Allowance. Check your tax code with HMRC.
Does this calculator store my figures?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
