Add up your regular business costs by category to see what you spend each month and year, which cost is largest and — if you enter sales — how much is left before tax.
Illustrative only, not financial advice. Results depend entirely on the figures you enter. Figures filled in below are labelled “Example figure” — they aren’t live rates, offers or recommendations.

How this calculator works
Enter what you usually spend each month in each category; blank boxes count as £0. Yearly or one-off costs are spread evenly across 12 months. Results are rounded to the penny and percentages to two decimal places.
This is a budgeting aid, not a tax calculation: which costs are allowable expenses depends on HMRC rules and your business — see business tax and HMRC and GOV.UK: expenses if you’re self-employed. The figure “sales left” is before tax, National Insurance, drawings or dividends.
The formulas we use
Total per year: Annual = (sum of monthly costs × 12) + yearly costs
Total per month: Monthly = Annual ÷ 12
Share of each category: Share = category annual cost ÷ Annual × 100
Costs as a share of sales: Monthly ÷ monthly sales × 100; sales left: monthly sales − Monthly
FAQ
Does this tell me which expenses are tax-deductible?
No. It adds up costs you enter. Whether a cost is an allowable expense depends on HMRC rules and your circumstances.
How are yearly costs handled?
They’re divided by 12 and added to the monthly total, so you can see the average monthly cost.
Should I enter amounts including VAT?
Use whichever matches how you budget. If you’re VAT-registered you may reclaim some VAT, so you might prefer amounts excluding VAT.
Does this calculator store my figures?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
